Takii Europe delivering regional solutions 

Takii Europe is a regional subsidiary of Takii, bringing nearly 200 years of expertise in vegetable and flower breeding to growers across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia.  

Based in the Netherlands, Takii Europe manages breeding stations, trial sites and production facilities. Supported by a trusted network of local offices, representatives and distributors, we deliver high-performance seed varieties tailored to the unique needs of each region and market.  

As part of Takii’s global network, we combine worldwide expertise with local insight. This interconnected network enables us to develop varieties tailored to diverse climates, ensure a stable seed supply and support the growers who rely on us season after season.

Our story

  • 1835

    Start of the family business

    Takii’s story began in the heart of Kyoto, Japan—a city renowned for its craftsmanship, tradition and pursuit of perfection. In 1835, Omoriya Jiemon, the first generation of Jisaburō Takii, began selling high-quality seed, marking the start of Takii’s seed business. From this humble seed shop, we have grown into a prominent name in plant breeding, a journey that reflects our Japanese heritage and unwavering commitment to continuous improvement.

  • 1851

    Start of seed production

    Begins seed production and paid subdivisions, launching a full-scale seed and seedling business.

  • 1880

    Second generation

    Omoriya Jiemon passes away, and the second generation, Jisaburo Takii, inherits the family business, "Taneji Honten."

  • 1905

    First mail order catalog

    Takii issued its first mail order catalog and launched its mail order business.

  • 1906

    Third generation

    Jisaburo Takii the Second passes away and Jisaburo Takii the Third inherits the family business.

  • 1920

    Establishment

    Jisaburo Takii Shoten Co., Ltd. is established with a capital of 150,000 yen.

  • 1926

    Change of name

    The company name is changed to Takii Seed Co., Ltd.

  • 1935

    Nagaoka

    The Nagaoka farm (later Nagaoka Research Farm) is established in Kyoto Prefecture.

  • 1937

    Overseas business

    Begins overseas business operations.

  • 1950

    World's first

    Introduces the world’s first F1 hybrid brassica varieties: Chinese cabbage ‘No.1’ and cabbage ‘O-S Cross’ (winner of the All-America Selections medal in 1951).

  • 1968

    Kohsei R&D station

    Establishes a 70-hectare Plant Breeding and Experiment Station in Kohsei, Shiga Prefecture, Japan.

  • 1982

    American Takii

    American Takii, Inc. is established as a local subsidiary in the United States.

  • 1990

    Takii Europe B.V.

    Takii Europe B.V. is established as a local subsidiary in the Netherlands.

  • 1991

    Toshiya Takii becomes Chairman, and Denichi Takii becomes President of Takii & Co., Ltd.

  • 1992

    Chairman Toshiya Takii is awarded Japan’s prestigious Order of the Rising Sun.

  • 1994

    Huanglong Seed Co., Ltd., a joint venture, is established in Hong Kong.

  • 1995

    Takii France S.A. is established, along with Qingdao Huanglong Seed Co., Ltd. in China.

  • 1999

    Takii do Brasil Ltda. is established in Brazil.

  • 2002

    Takii Korea Co., Ltd. is established as a local subsidiary in South Korea.

  • 2003

    Semillas Takii Chile Ltda. is established as a local subsidiary in Chile.

  • 2014

    Takii Spain S.L. and Takii Seed Vietnam Co., Ltd. are established.

  • 2016

    Takii Turkey Seed is established in Turkey.

  • 2019

    Takii Hungary Kft. is established in Hungary.

  • 2021

    Semillas Takii de Mexico SA de CV is established as a local subsidiary in Mexico.
