Takii Europe

Takii Europe is a subsidiary of Takii & Co., Ltd. in Japan. Headquartered in De Kwakel, The Netherlands. We cover the European, Middle East, African and Central Asia markets of our parent company. We manage breeding stations, production sites and sales offices contributing to the supply and promotion of a wide assortment of vegetables and flower varieties to professional growers and to the home garden market. Recruitment for our European sister companies is coordinated from these headquarters.

Takii Europe is setting up a new breeding site in Szigetszentmiklos, in the centre of the cabbage growing area in Hungary. This site will be operated by a grower/site manager who will work closely together with the cabbage breeding team in the Netherlands.

Grower/Site Manager (this vacancy has been filled)

Main tasks

To start off with, you will be responsible for setting up the new breeding location, by furnishing the workspace and ordering tools and materials and consulting with the owner of the property (and other parties) to coordinate the activities that you will be outsourcing to them. Under the supervision of the cabbage breeder and manager R&D in the Netherlands, you will be responsible for setting up and executing breeding support activities for the development of new cabbage varieties, such as raising young plants, growing trials of cabbage and other crops, maintenance of machines, equipment and selected plants.  You will hire temporary workers when needed, keep up with local legislation and report to the R&D manager on topics such as daily work, costs and expenses. This job means multitasking, combining your experience as a grower with your tasks (and talents) as an excellent organizer!

Job requirements

As the site is a new one you must enjoy pioneering. You are quite able to combine several roles: as an organiser, a supervisor and as vegetable grower. You communicate easily with various parties you collaborate with to get the work done.
We expect you to have a bachelor’s degree in horticulture. You are trained in plant production, cultivation, plant physiology and plant protection and you have ample experience in running field trials. For this function, it is necessary that you are fluent in English, both written and orally. You love to work both individually and with a team. You are accurate, well organised, flexible, creative, and driven. Relevant experience in a similar job is a plus.
