The Takii story, that traces its roots nearly two centuries ago, is one of tradition, authenticity, professionalism and growth. Beginning in 1835 with a small family-owned seed store in Kyoto, Japan, Takii has continually defined a management style and philosophy that has led to becoming a world-leading breeding company of optimum quality vegetable and flower varieties.
Mr. Jisaburo Ohmoriya started distributing seeds to farmers.
Takii issued its first mail order catalog and launched its mail order business.
A privately-run firm known as Takii Jisaburo Shoten & Co., Ltd. was formed.
The Takii Plant Breeding and Experimental Station was established.
Takii & Co., Ltd introduced the "Fukujyu No.1" and "Fukujyu No.2", F1 hybrid tomatoes and became a leader in tomato breeding in Japan.
Takii introduced the world's first varieties of Brassica F1 hybrids: Chinese Cabbage "No.1" and Cabbage "O-S Cross" ( A.A.S. medal winner in 1951).
"Just Right", the world's first F1 hybrid turnip, was introduced (A.A.S. medal winner in 1959).
The Ibaraki Plant Breeding and Experimental Station was established in Japan.
Takii introduced the world's first F1 hybrid daikon (Japanese Radish): Daikon "Spring Cross". Takii also introduced the F1 hybrid Eggplant "Millionaire".
Japan's first F1 hybrid onion, Onion "O-Y", was introduced.
Takii introduced the world's first F1 hybrid broccoli: Broccoli "Late Corona".
New buildings to accommodate the company's headquarters were completed.
Takii introduced a F1 hybrid squash - Squash "Delica" - which became the most popular squash variety in Japan.
"Coral Cross", the first F1 hybrid carrot in Japan was introduced.
The Takii Plant Breeding and Experimental Station covering 70 hectares was established in Kohsei, Shiga Prefecture, Japan.
The F1 hybrid Broccoli "Green Comet" was awarded an A.A.S. Gold Medal.
Takii introduced the world's first F1 hybrid kohlrabi - Kohlrabi "Grand Duke" (A.A.S. medal winner in 1979).
Takii introduced "Relish Cross", a disease-resistant F1 hybrid daikon (Japanese Radish). It led to the popularity of the green-necked radish varieties.
- F1 hybrid Zinnia "Gold Sun" won an A.A.S. Bronze Medal. - Takii introduced the world's first F1 hybrid celery: Celery "Top Seller".
The new building for the Tokyo Sales Office was completed.
The company's capital increased to 200 million yen.
The Sales Office in Sendai, Japan moved to a new location. - American Takii, Inc. was established.
Modern, state-of-the-art research facilities were completed at Takii's Plant Breeding and Experimental Station
The Naganuma Breeding Station, Takamatsu Office and Takii Europe Liaison Office were established.
Takii celebrated the 150th anniversary of its founding, the 65th anniversary of its incorporation, and the 80th anniversary of its mail order business.
On this occasion, Takii changed its brand name from "Nagaoka Hybrid" to "Takii Hybrid". By this time, Takii had created 425 varieties of hybrid vegetables and 136 varieties of flower hybrids. - Takii introduced its hybrid tomato, Tomato "Tough Boy". This pioneering, sweet-tasting hybrid enjoys an extremely high share of the market. - "Bio-Hakuran" was created: the first hybrid Brassica developed by cell fusion.
The Japanese sales offices in Tokyo, Sapporo, Fukuoka and Sendai became branch offices.
Takii Europe B.V. was established in the Netherlands.

Chairman Toshiya Takii was honored with a prestigious decoration, "The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette", a Japanese order established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji of Japan.
The Fujimi Plant Breeding and Experimental Station opened in Nagano Prefecture, Japan for the purpose of developing new flower varieties. (Later, it would be combined with a plant breeding and experimental station in Shiojiri, Japan to become Nagano Plant Breeding and Experimental Station.)
During the 100th anniversary of its agricultural trial research activities, Takii won the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries award for "the establishment of the F1 breeding method". - The renovation of Kawaramachi retail outlet was completed.
Takii Research France was established in the south of France. - A new warehouse for handling horticultural items was established in Kameoka, Japan.
Zinnia angustifolia "Crystal White" won an A.A.S. medal.
A branch was established in Seoul, South Korea.
Osteospermum "Passion Mix" received an A.A.S. award. - Takii do Brasil Ltda. (a joint-venture company) was established in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Yuma Research Station was established in Arizona in the US. - Takii participated in Japan Flora 2000 at Awajishima, Japan.
Takii became the first Japanese seed company to acquire the ISO 9002 accreditation for a quality control system.
The Inami Experimental Station for testing and improving flower varieties opened in Wakayama, Japan.
Takii Research France S.A. purchased land with facilities for seed production in Grisolles, France and changed its name to Takii France S.A.
The newly built Quality Control Center in Kyoto, Japan began conducting various tests to ensure the supply of high-quality seeds.
The Fukuoka branch moved to a new location with a brand-new modern building. - Takii Korea Co.,Ltd. was established.
The Quality Control Center in Kyoto, Japan acquired the ISO/IEC17025 accreditation.
Takii acquired a 20% share in Dutch biotech company KeyGene and entered the BioSeed strategic alliance in the Netherlands.
